Golden Rain
A Poem in Tribute to Another Friend Safely Home
INTRO
Have you lost any dear friends this year?
Last week, I wrote this poem for her and to help me to process the imminent loss of another friend from cancer, the second one this year.
She’s been gathered her up to heaven, and although we are grieving (she was a writer in our group, and an amazing leader in her community), we also rejoice that she is now seeing Jesus and is pain free.
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. (1 Thes. 4:13, ESV)
Golden Rain
(for L, 10/30/25) It’s raining golden leaves come down So much they've carpeted the ground And light the world with golden glow An ethereal light basking my sorrow And I sigh As tears streak down windowpanes A grief dormant that has lain Untapped, now surfaces to be held As heart constricts, emotions meld And it hurts. But golden rain reminds me, too That light reverberates onward— through The veil that separates you from me Carrying us to a place so free Where golden Light surrounds His throne And so reminds we’re not alone And one day we, too, will be home, at rest. So golden rain through windowpanes Reminds me I’ll never be the same With sweet you rooted in my heart Wisdom and encouragement to impart, And I will so miss you. May the golden light flow all around As angels sing and bring your crown And I can’t wait to meet you there Fellowship with Him to share! Until that time when I arrive, I know with Him you'll surely thrive So I celebrate. . . That golden rain and golden Light Exist together in earthly life Knowing the Light helps bear this rain Until I walk with you again, On streets of golden.

But golden rain reminds me, too
That light reverberates onward— through
The veil that separates you from me
Carrying us to a place so free
Where golden Light surrounds His throne
And so reminds we’re not alone
And one day we, too, will be home,
at rest.
