Heaviness Hopes
(And Writing Is Healing)
Heaviness Hopes
It’s hard to write with a heavy heart The words get stuck; I just can’t start. When grief weighs like boulders All across the shoulders, It’s HARD to write with a heavy heart. Many struggle in this season To grasp ahold of the true reason… When humanity suffers, Our Jesus buffers; But still, it’s TOUGH to write. Ornaments bring memory jolts; Feelings stage a full-fledged revolt. Carols crooning melancholy Render me less than jolly. It’s DIFFICULT to write amidst grief. Yet every fiber of inmost being Knows even death shall be fleeting. The Savior stoops to remind His love so extremely kind… Yes, I WILL write out of love. A Savior laid on a manger throne Came to earth to rescue His own. Leaving glory immeasurably bright, Humbly He comes to cover our plight, And I CAN write in His love. Gracious Redeemer, Savior, and Friend, Strengthen and carry us to the end Of war-torn paths and suffering souls; Character with hope You mold… And see? I AM writing again.
I have found writing to be very healing, helping me to recenter. How do you cope with the dichotomy of joy and grief during the Christmas season? Do you journal or write, or use music for prayer or solace? Let me know, I’d love to hear from you!
